Abstract: Uganda is still what travellers consider an ‘insider trip’. Off the tourist map, a place still in the shadows of its past. Visitors, including scientists and conservationists, had a difficult time in the civil war-stricken country. Poaching had endangered many of Uganda’s most iconic animals, including mountain gorillas, savannah elephants, the chimpanzees and even the tree-dwelling lions. But now the national parks have been restored and Uganda’s wildlife is once again thriving. This is a celebration of their survival.

Abstract: Korea is known as a modern, high tech nation; but beyond the bustle of the cities there’s a land of stunning natural beauty and remarkable wildlife. There are lush wetlands and mudflats in contrast to the soaring mountains and turbulent seas; and the beautiful goshawk, bottleneck dolphin and curious racoon dog thrive alongside Korea’s traditional people as they have for many thousands of years.

Abstract: The Maasai people of Kenya and Northern Tanzania have an ancient ritual. To prove their skills and courage, to step out of the shadows of their fathers and to impress and find a woman, the young men venture out into the savannah to search and kill the fiercest of predators - a lion... For thousands of years, this was an essential tradition for the Maasai to celebrate the rite of passage from boy to man. But this has been changed: today, the young Maasai are hunting not for lions, but for medals - as they are competing as athletes in the Maasai Olympics.

Abstract: The Glade is a paradise in the desiccated plains of Ruaha. Water is here all year round. This bounty spawns strange relationships, like the pact that exists between a baboon and a lion family who, against all natural instincts, live in harmony. But peace in the Glade is shattered when thousands of buffalo arrive to drink. They are followed by the biggest pride in all of Ruaha National Park, The Baobab pride. While the Baobab pride hunts the herd inside the Glade, another pride arrives on the scene. They are the Njaa - a pride of drifters - always following the buffalo herd. The herd is in their territory and they will fight any lion that dares to poach their prey. The Glade becomes a war zone.

Abstract: Tasmania lies on the Australian continent, but is a world apart. It is home to an extraordinary cast of black devils and white wallabies. Trees here tower to one hundred metres and green lights dance in the southern sky. As the last landfall heading south before Antarctica, Tasmania’s isolation, cooler climate and distinct seasons influence everything.

Abstract: Between the Brahmaputra river’s origins and the canyon, along the main ridges of the Himalayas, lies perhaps the most dynamic landscape in the world. The collision of two formerly divided continents, India and Asia, continues to this day, and is responsible for creating both the Himalayas and the river system. The high plateaus near these rivers are often hidden from sight, and provide a habitat for animals and plants that have adapted to the extreme conditions of the high elevations and low temperatures.

Abstract: Leopards are solitary animals; but not in northwest India. In a remote, little-known region of Rajasthan these majestic big cats display astonishing behaviour. They live in close proximity to each other and frequently interact. The leopards live on rocky hills, riddled with caves. Here a mother leopard, called Neelam, protects her three cubs from roaming adult males that would kill the youngsters. The many tunnels and caves act as a sanctuary. Their habitat, a large plain sprinkled with ancient rock formations, is unique. The leopards share this starkly beautiful landscape with families of hyenas, monkeys, peacocks and parrots, as well as with the local villagers. They all depend on the fickle monsoon rains.

Human flow / un film di Ai Weiwei

Rai Cinema ; 01 Distribution, p2017

Abstract: The richest seas in the world surround the islands that lie between Asia and Australia. The moon holds sway over these seas and coasts and all their creatures. Twice a day the tides flood the strangest forests on earth. Here fiddler crabs dance to the moon, whilst bizarre fish run away from water, and even odder fish hide in trees. The power of the moon is still felt beyond the range of the tide. Tidal currents sweep across coral reefs, bringing plankton, and making the reefs the richest on earth. Manta rays and whale sharks feast on the plankton and mobula rays attack the millions of tiny fish that thrive in these rich tropical seas. They are all the product of the moon and millions of years of evolution.

Abstract: This is the story of how the violent power of the Earth has created a realm of unparalleled biodiversity and beauty. Southeast Asia’s islands are an extraordinary world of tree climbing kangaroos and boxing pigs, where birds hatch from the ash of erupting volcanoes. The region’s biological richness is the result of a violent collision between two different worlds, millions of years in the making.

Abstract: In the heart of the American Midwest lies a landscape where lush grasslands seem torn open by towering pinnacles and spires of rock. It’s a place where summers of blistering heat follow winters of punishing cold and some of the country’s most charismatic animals – the black-tailed prairie dog, the burrowing owl and the American bison – fight to survive.

Abstract: They are among the most hated und feared animals on the planet - only few people recognize their beauty. This documentary features some of Europe's most stunning species, like the European adder, the nose-horned viper, the dice snake, the ringed snake and the Aesculapian snake. After a winter safe in burrows, sometimes in bundles of hundreds, the spring's warmth brings them back to life. Adders at 2,000 metres in the Alps have extra survival skills: they are almost pitch-black to absorb every last ray from the sun, and their offspring are born alive - it would be too cold for eggs. Storks and herons, martens and polecats predate their lower altitude cousins. Most snakes avoid humans. The Aesculapian snake likes to shimmy up trees to catch birds, but it’s happier where humans store grain or dump waste – that attracts lots of mice. And Europe has its own constrictor!

Abstract: Only a few peak near the surface, or reach still higher to build nine green gems: the islands of the Azores. These volcanic rocks, the only toehold between Europe and America, are of extra- ordinary beauty. The steep shelf of the Azores is a play- and mating ground for several kinds of whale. Here groups of male sperm whales on their never-ending migration from the Arctic to the Antarctic, meet females. Humpback whales and grey whales break the surface - and blue whales come here too, to feed from the vast biomass produced in the ocean's depths. Drifting up from the deep, plankton and krill attract huge schools of fish and squid. Portuguese Men 'o' War drift threateningly on the surface, while undersea caves host cannibalistic shrimps, manta rays and moray eels. On the islands, the grassy craters of the volcanoes are a winter home to songbirds from Iceland, Russia and North America, while their craggy outer walls form nests for vast colonies of Cory's Shearwaters.

Abstract: A spectacular ancient tradition is being revived right across Europe: shepherds leading flocks across the continent through the most savage and extreme landscapes. On the Similaun glacier at 2,800 meters in South Tyrol, inexperienced sheep plummet from the hazardous path or freeze to death in snowstorms. But crossing the Alps is not the longest trek in Europe. From Spain´s legendary La Mancha plains, the last cowboys of this continent and their cattle migrate into the green highlands of Cuenca. During their five week long marathon both, humans and animals face tremendous summer heat and desert- like conditions. While in Southern France herds of 3,000 sheep cross the spectacular plateaus of the Cevennes. Each sheep carries up to 5,000 seeds in its coat and spreads these en route, linking isolated biotopes. In Romania sheep climb the Carpathian Mountains, all the way to the Ukrainian border, constantly under threat from wolves. In Europe's far west, on a Welsh island, migrating sheep even generate a habitat for rare birds. Across the continent many animals and plants depend on these nomads: the last Imperial eagles, wolves, bearded and griffon vultures, insect and bird species.
